This is a wonderful Halloween cookies recipe I’m sure you’ll just love. If you like soft and chewy cookies this is for you! Start with a basic sugar cookie recipe and add chocolate chips and for a nice twist add a powdered orange drink mix. It may sound funny but these are absolutely delicious and very easy to make!
2 cups flour
1 1/4 cubes butter or margarine
1 1/4 teas. pure vanilla extract
1/4 teas. salt
1/2 teas. baking soda
1 1/2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
1 .15oz. pack unsweetened orange drink mix
Method: Halloween Cookies Recipe
For the wet ingredients add the butter or margarine to a medium size microwavable bowl or small saucepan.
For the microwave version place your bowl in the microwave and set it for about 30-40 seconds, just long enough to melt.
The saucepan version is to melt the butter over low heat just long enough to melt. This way will take about 2-4 minutes.
Note: You don’t want the butter to be hot, basically you’re looking for room temperature.
Once the butter is melted stir in the sugar, vanilla and orange drink mix.
After your “butter mix” has been combined set aside for a second and beat the eggs in a small bowl.
Add your beaten eggs to your butter mix and stir to mix well.
Now it’s time to combine everything. Add your chocolate chips and butter mixture to the flour and mix very well.
You’re cookie dough is ready. At this point preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
For bigger cookies (like the ones in the picture) use a tablespoon. For smaller cookies use a teaspoon.
Simply scoop up a big spoonful and place it in the corner of a cookie sheet. Just use your finger or another spoon to slide it off onto the cookie sheet. (You can place a piece of parchment or wax paper on your cookie sheet but it’s not necessary with a nonstick cookie sheet)
Continue placing spoonfuls of the cookie dough on your cookie sheet until full. You want about an inch space between them.
You’ll probably need 2 cookie sheets as this Halloween cookie recipe makes 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 dozen cookies depending on what size you make them.
Once you have all of your cookies on your cookie sheets place in your preheated 350 degree oven to bake.
Larger (tablespoon size) cookies will take about 20 minutes for “chewy”. If you like them a little bit crispy leave them in for about 25 minutes or so.
For smaller (teaspoon size) cookies bake for about 12-15 minutes or a little longer for crispy ones.
Once they come out of the oven place your cookie sheets on racks or hot pads on your counter to cool slightly. Cool for about 5-7 minutes.
At this point they will still be warm and easy to remove from your cookie sheets so I just take a thin spatula and transfer the warm cookies to a piece of foil to finish cooling. (If you lined your cookie sheets with paper you can skip this step.)
Once they have completely cooled you can transfer them to a serving platter and dig in!
